It's Christmas!
It's that jolly time of the year when you relax and chill out...
But, unfortunately, for a few of us engineering students, its the cram time- the period of so called study for the oncoming Sem-End exams!
All that apart, i saw the movie "3 IDIOTS" today.... its a nice movie, and is totally relevant to what i'm trying to say.... I really wish few of my college-mates see it and realize that it's better to learn and understand rather than mug up everything and score marks without even knowing a least bit about the subject.
They are not to blame totally, because after-all, they do it because they've been raised in such a form of academics. The whole criteria of judging a person by his grades or marks should go. It's just based on a simulated performance of the student in the so called tests that these marks are assigned and they don't throw any light on a person's real-time skills and abilities. And this has come to such a level that people actually memorize and reproduce stuff without bothering to learn about it. and yet they score marks. tell me, how does this actually reflect a person's expertise in the subject?
And if this is not enough, the institutions also push the students towards the edge, giving them deadline after another deadline, pressurizing them to do well or perish. in the midst of all this, there is never enough time to even think properly, you just do many things just because you have to.
And one more thing, we are now in the age of Open-source. The whole world is becoming an open book. So what is wrong in referring other materials for your convenience? why don't people move with times and accept this? Isn't the whole concept of the so called COPYING outdated? In other words, it is just another form of sharing. So, what is wrong with it? Aren't we sharing knowledge that way? The whole emphasis is on scoring marks right? So why should the institutions be bothered bout how you score it?
It's time that at least we students realized this. Stop trying to run in the Rat-race because even if you win, you'l still be a rat. Rather, lets blaze our own trail and leave the world in awe.... what say my friends? Think about it....

  1. You have made a good point about open book exams.I think its time that open book exams are introduced in degree courses. Closed book exams just test the memorizing capabilty of a person which is not what makes a good graduate. Also i think more amount of laboratory and practical sessions need to be introduced because there is a lot of difference between oing things practically and studying it in book.
And about 'COPYING',if it is just verification of answers then it is good. There is no point in just writing the entire answer from the neighbour without even seeing if it is correct or not. But the present system makes it inevitable for us. There is really no time for us to analyze what we are doing. But if we are really not worried about the score and just want to test our abilites, then sure our heart takes a back step before looking into others paper.!!

  2. Dude Very nice Starting post for a blog. Totally true . The entire system here revolves around trying to find ways of curbing your creativity. It just expects you to memorize and regurgitate coz truly creative people can shake the very foundaion of the system thus making it crumble like a deck of cards. Hence they still insist on having the system and making you a mere slave to it. But in the end my bro its free thinkers who have always had the last laugh in any era or civilization. But think about it , in a way only those who truly think for themselves understand this and they are the ones who deserve to understand it. The others are meek fools who are blissfully unaware of reality. So this system does produce true deserving realists who are the ones who matter in the end!
